Who are you, what do you want?

I am Timm Murray, and this is my towel.

What's this Gopher thing?

Gopher is a protocol that was developed at the same time as what we now call "the web". It once had many more servers than the web did, but fell into disuse around 1995-'96. That is rather unfortunate, as it is more efficent than the web is for transfering small documents. It wouldn't handle the graphics-intensive sites we see on the web very well. Some consider this to be a feature.

On this site, Gopher is used to transfer the documentation section (see question 3).

What kind of information is available here?

Obscure computer documents. You get points for uploading the bizzare, the weird, and the downright insane ideas and practices in the computer world. Want to make a barebones CAT5 tester out of a parallel port? How about the instruction set for a PDP-11?

What is a "wumpus"?

The site was named after an old Unix text-based game called "Hunt the Wumpus". You would be in a room in a cave with a few arrows. The Wumpus was somewhere else in the cave, and your objective was to shoot it with an arrow. Bats could carry you to another part of the cave, and there were bottomless pits you might fall into. If you used up your arrows without killing the Wumpus, the Wumpus would sense this with his telepathic powers and eat you.

Web sites with black backgrounds are stupid.

Yes they are.

So, why do you have a black background anyway?

Reflection. Surprise. Terror. For the future.

Is 'Timm' really spelled with two m's?

Yup.

Why?

The avalanche has already fallen, and it is too late for the pebbles to vote.

Look, you can't just keep deflecting questions with Kosh Naranek quotes.

Yes I can.
